Small towns have lots of green space & animals love them. Small towns are quiet & slower paced, giving us an opportunity to stop, observe & reflect at any given moment without interfering with an on purposed hurried flow. When you live in a small town there is an intimacy within you, for the collectiveness of all your neighbors & real thought behind the kindness given to their welfare. In a small town, without thinking you are immediately called to action in celebration & when pain & suffering occur. The true beauty of a small town is when you become aware that you are so connected with others that there is no doubt that this is home and we are family!
One of the most innovative & fastest growing settings for both independent & assisted livings options in the United States today is the university based retirement community and for those whose idea of heaven on earth revolves around an atmosphere of intellect, lifelong learning & an atmosphere that intrigues you with past present & future there is no better place than a university campus. The very energy is infectious.
The Ammons Family who are also one of the founding families of Mars Hill University continued their legacy over twenty years ago when they secured the land & built Mars Hill Retirement Community adjacent to Mars Hill University.
What dream & innovation to have the vision of such a wonderful opportunity for students & seniors to learn from, help & to grow together in knowledge with each other to form such a special community at that time was an evolution & just made good since.
For all of this to happen in the small town of Mars Hill, North Carolina made it beautiful.

Max is much happier at the Retirement Center. We are very happy with the situation.
I moved here April 2017. I thought I would bring my past professional experiences, but found out it was the best living experience that I had ever had to "learn" about myself. I am an only child and had a wide variety of experiences working with others. The support of the staff including the CNA's is most exceptional as are the activities, food and day trips.

Mars Hill Retirement Community has been a wonderful place for our mother to spend her senior years. We were told when we were looking to bring her there that if she came they would love her and they have made her feel loved. She attends most activities and enjoys the lovely dining room for meals. We rest much easier each day and night knowing she is safe and happy.
My Mother has been at Mars Hill Retirement for almost 2 years. The all around care here is very good. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice place for their loved one.

Mars Hill Retirement Community has been a wonderful fit for my mother. She has made numerous friends and loves the staff. The only room I see for improvement would be cleanliness. I would like to have her room cleaned more thoroughly. My family no longer has to worry if she is taking her medications or if she is eating nutritious meals. I would highly recommend Mars Hill Retirement Community to anyone.

The front office staff have been very helpful. They try to keep activities for everyone to do. The food is just fair. The maintenance group does a good job.

We toured several nursing homes and my husband was in a rehab unit after living in MHRC for awhile. Food and staffing in all places was terrible. MHRC is like a posh hotel by comparison. I join my husband for dinner or lunch on several occasions and the meals are wonderful. His comment after being in rehab for a month was "I want to get back to my cheerful CNA's and enjoy hugs and laughter and enjoy eating again!"
