Despite the holidays being different this year, we have found fun ways to celebrate. And we didn’t even have to look outside our own community for entertainment! Our Christmas and New Year’s events were filled with song, dance, and plenty of cheer thanks to several of our talented staff and residents.
Our Christmas season got off to a joyful start with a sing-a-long led by Dorry, a resident at MHR. Dorry is a gifted piano player, and we all loved singing carols and holiday songs as she tickled the ivories.
Our Resident Christmas Luncheon was held in early December, where we enjoyed a special performance by staff member Rachael Woodall. Rachael sings with “Rachael and the Tuesday Boys,” a local Madison County band. The group has performed at several local events and music venues, including The Depot in downtown Marshall, where they are regulars. You can check them out in this YouTube video. (Go to the 3 minute mark on the video to see Rachael perform as lead singer!)
We rang in the New Year with style at our New Year’s Eve Celebration! Activity Assistant Sherilynn Gordon sang for us at this festive event. Sherilynn sang for Disney and on cruise ships in her former career, and we loved being entertained by her. Other staff members joined in with their own songs and showed off their dance moves! This is not the first time Sherilynn has sung for our residents. She also entertained everyone by singing in the hallways last spring.
Although 2020 was challenging, we’re thankful that our community is staying strong, thanks to the love and support we have for one another. We’re grateful for all the blessings of 2020 and are looking forward to a wonderful New Year ahead!
